I came up through filmmaking when the craft was passed from person to person — techniques, tricks and lessons learned from mentors and crews over decades. I've watched the tools evolve throughout my career. I don't abandon what came before when something new arrives. I take the techniques that still work and combine them with what today's technology makes possible.

When I'm hired as a DP, I'm helping the director tell their story. Together with the director and gaffer, we establish the palette and visual language. Then I turn that language into images.
